I’ll make you an offer you can’t refuse

So I’m starting to diverse my library, not so much Christian/leadership book, so i took a dive with this book. Michael Franzese, an ex mob boss, writes in his book “I’ll make you an offer you can’t refuse” great leadership insights for business leaders. He ties in both Mob ideas and Business ideas. Reading trhough this book I quickly imagined myself as part of the sopranos, haha. Never have I known more about how the mob does work, but they are very talented and have great inside tips. One section I really enjoyed was when Franzese makes corelation between Machiavelli and King Solomon. Both individuals had great strengths but also great weaknesses. Here are some points that I enjoyed:

  • Having a clear, focused, written plan for your business is crucial.
  • You must define the ultimate goals of your business in advance and refer to them as you progress. You can’t hit a target you can’t see.
  • Once you’ve got your plan, you have to work it. And work it hard.
  • Do what you do best, and delegate the rest.
  • Your character and integrity will ultimately be reflected in the way you run your business.
  • Lead with your brain not your mouth.
  • Start out as the student, finish as the teacher, and leave with the spoils.
  • Failure is a tough teacher, but it can teach you your strengths and weaknesses in a way that no other teacher can.

Although this book seemed like any other leadership/business book I have read, I did enjoy the many Mob stories. This book Although took me a while to finish is one that I would only recommend to those who are starting up in businesses, it lays down a good starting foundation.
